We are so very thrilled to announce the birth of our first lambs! Two very healthy twin boys were born on May 10th, 2011. First-time Mom and boys are doing great! Here’s some pics of the happy family:

With regret, there won’t be a 2013 Smiling Blue Skies Walk to End Canine Cancer in Bradford this year. Life got in the way and I wasn’t able to commit to a date. We will, however, be back full-strength for next year and we hope you’ll be able to join us! In the meantime, however, Kelly, of Kelly’s Dog Walking ( http://www.kellysdogwalking.com ) will be holding her Toronto walk on September 28, 2013. We attended her inaugural walk last year and had a terrific time ! Kelly’s team raised close to $40,000 for K9 cancer research! Fabulous job!

Ice has already been awarded his first 2 points towards his CKC Championship. He’s very eager to earn many more over the summer months with hopes to add some alphabet soup to his registered name. We were definitely blessed with good weather on our side for our first annual Smiling Blue Skies Walk to End Canine Cancer. Between the 35 registered walkers, along with their fur-kids and 2-legged friends/family members, who took part in the hikes, and quite a few virtual walkers, a total of $14,000 was raised for the OVC Pet Trust Fund. Simply AMAZING! Congratulations and BIG Thank YOU’s to all the volunteers for their hard work, to all the walkers for their dedication, to the sponsors for their generosity, and to Smiling Blue Skies for their never-ending support! What a fantastic team effort all ’round!

Another year as passed (and it’s already February as I type this!)! How quickly time goes when you’re having a blast! My fur-clients never ceased to put a smile on my face and laughter in my heart! From wee-little Chihuahuas to almost ride-able Great Danes, they all kept me hopping! Our Forest Adventure continued to expand, though out the year, and is now a 5-day-a-week fun-filled option! Several fur-clients are taking advantage of an entire week of energy-burning socialization, and many others are joining in for a day or two or three. Quite often, we meet other pooches out on the trails and the packs enjoy their impromptu “party”. Their interactions help to build a more confident and stable personality, and their travels help to satisfy their instinctual need to travel on a daily basis. It’s an all-round win-win solution for the owner, the beloved K9’s, and, of course, myself – I’m the lucky one who gets to spend my days with such terrific pups!
Here we have part of the Friday pack – (back) Tyson and Spike (front) Butterball and Daisy. There’s no denying that they’re having the time of their life!
Many thanks goes out to my grooming clients! You have loyally returned on a regular basis to fill my grooming days well in advance! I apologize to new-comers who are usually surprised at the waiting list – many times, depending on the time of year, 6-weeks is not uncommon! But please don’t let that put you off. Quite often there will be an empty spot, and once you’re “in”, you’re IN!

The end of a calendar time signals the time to unlock the tip box and find out how much we collected for the Smiling Blue Skies Canine Cancer Fund. With excited fingers, I added up the coins and bills to a grand total of $200! Whahoooo! That’s $200 that can help find a cure! I love sending that off, and all those who donated should have a proud feeling in their hearts knowing that they are helping such a worthwhile cause!
I am very excited that Suzi Beber, the founder of Smiling Blue Skies, and I have something BIG planned for the middle of the new year that will, hopefully, increase that donation exponentially. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement! It is going to be so exciting and so much fun!
The Spring of 2011 was particularly exciting on the home-front with the birth of our first lambs. We were blessed with a set of twin boys and 2 singles, a girl and a boy! I was fortunate to witness/assist in the birth of the singles, while a good friend was present for the birth of the twins. The miracle of new life never gets old! There are pictures in the photo gallery if you wish to take a peak of minutes-old baby lambs!
We had to say good-bye to Ciaran in the Autumn, one of the hardest things we’ve had to do, and we’re still reeling from the loss. Ciaran was such an intricately woven thread in the fabric of our lives and not a day goes past that we aren’t constantly reminded of the presence he had in our home. Love you, Ciaran-a-man!

What an incredible year 2010 was both with Paws to Claws and on the home-front.
The business saw tremendous growth in all areas. Dog walking has become a 5-day-a-week labour of love. In order to accommodate the explosion of daily walk requests, I dedicated Saturday to grooming – much to the delight of the clients who were unable to make it to week-day appointments. All in all, it’s worked out wonderfully! I appreciate everyone’s patience as we tweaked schedules to be able to fit all the pooches in!
We are so proud to say that after three-quarters of a year of hard work, we are finally able to call our home a farm. We purchased 4 Suffolks ewes in September. They are enjoying their newly-fenced field and their own stable in the barn. Currently, the girls are hosting a very handsome young ram, with the hopes that the flock may expand in the spring. Fingers crossed!
Our pack is doing well for the most part but this is where we suffered an unexpected blow. Our 6 year old male Belgian, Ciaran, was officially diagnosed with cardiac failure in May. He was given about 6 months, and promptly put on a few cardiac medications to help him with various complications. Much to our surprise, the 6 month time-frame came and went. Day after day, we have been blessed with his greeting each morning. Seeing his face on Christmas morning was the biggest gift we’ve ever received!
We have had his abdomen drained twice now, to remove excess fluids, and we restrict his activities and he continues to surprise us over and over again. We are certainly cherishing these moments!
Finally, a HUGE proud moment: Thanks to the generosity of many, many clients, we were able to make a donation of $310, collected from tips, to the Smiling Blue Skies Cancer Fund. That is FANTASTIC! Let’s hope those dollars can make a difference in the lives of our fur-friends!
